Common Challenge with New Builds
When this client reached out for design help, I heard a familiar story. The client had a lot of ideas for the bathrooms for their new build project. But, there was a problem. They were overwhelmed with so many options. In turn, they asked me to help with their new build bathroom selections. With this era of information overload, having too many options creates this challenge for so many people. They knew what they liked but didn’t know how to pull together everything to create coastal bathroom design for their new home.
This client was looking for me to help them take their selections from the Toll Brothers builder website and narrow it down. The designs would incorporate both the hard finishes from the builder and soft finishes to be purchased later. The client received bathroom designs that captured the look and feel of their inspiration photos. They received PDF’s with three unique pulled together bathroom looks. In other words, the client could go into the selections meeting with a plan, and more importantly, the confidence, to be able to pick the pieces to create the bathroom looks they desired.
The Spa Retreat Master Bathroom
For their master bathroom, the client really wanted to evoke the feeling of a spa-like retreat. Gray and white with some marble-look tile was the foundation of this space. To add interest and to keep it modern, the look of mixed metals was used. For the faucets, mirrors and vanity lighting, simple shapes in varying chrome and gold tones helped to pull off this look.
The floor tile in this design was a pretty gray 12 x 24 laid in a 70/30 pattern. So, this means the rows are set a little off-center to add interest. To complement the gray floors, white cabinets were the perfect choice. Shower floor options included a greige herringbone or a natural pebble look with a subtle white and gray marble effect. For the shower walls, a soft gray, white and beige large scale tile that complements the other tiles and finishes. To finish off the space, textile and decor in neutral finishes continue throughout. The overall look really creates spa feel for this space. With a serene and classic vibe, it is perfect for a master bath retreat.
Powder Room Plus
The challenge with the client’s downstairs bathroom was that it would be used for a powder room for all house guests. But, it would also include a shower to serve as an additional guest bath. So creating a stylish and functional space was important. The space also needed to flow from the other downstairs spaces like the living room and kitchen. With the kitchen island being gray, this was an important color to bring into this space.

Powder rooms are one of the areas where you can play with pattern. For this space, a gorgeous wall tile was the perfect fun element to add style to this space. The other fun piece that was used in this design was a jute wrapped mirror. To play off the angles and lines of the wall tile, round sconces were used to soften the space. The other decor pieces chosen give the space a modern yet timeless feel.
Guest Bathroom
The client wanted to use some color in their upstairs bathroom. So, for this space a navy blue cabinet color served as the foundation. Again, to add interest, a mixed metal combination was used for plumbing, lighting and hardware. The client had submitted some modern feeling images. Therefore, clean lines with soft tones were used to play off the navy cabinet. I always recommend taller shower curtains, and white is the perfect color with navy. I also recommend adding in some warmer woods with the accessories to create the perfect complement to accent the brass tones.

Three Complementary Coastal Bathroom Designs
These coastal style bathroom selections designs were so much fun to create. I love how they capture a modern yet classic look. Even though they’re all different, they still flow to create a sense of cohesion. They all have that bright and airy feel that can give a spa quality to any bathroom space. With some splashes of color and pattern, these designs are fun, too.
