Girls’ Coastal Bedroom Design Ideas You’ll Love

|

One of our latest projects involved transforming a teen bedroom into a more mature space for their daughter. Making this space into a coastal girl’s room was perfect for this family. Living at the beach with water views and coastal surroundings all around inspired the design process. The family wanted to emphasize the natural beauty of the area and create a special space that reflected their coastal lifestyle.

What to Include in a Child’s Room as They Grow Older

A Space for Hanging Out with Friends

Consider adding comfortable seating options such as a small sofa or bean bag chairs so your child can hang out and relax with friends. Add a low table or ottoman which can serve as a place for snacks or playing games. As kids mature, it is important for them to have a space where they can lounge with friends. For small homes, using a bedroom is perfect for this type of hangout spot.

Include More Mature Pieces

Opt for neutral furniture that can grow with your child such as a sturdy white desk for a craft station or a place to do homework. Choose bedding and curtains in fun and mature patterns and colors that reflect your child’s age and personal style.

Personalized Decor Reflecting Their Interests, Favorite Colors, and Hobbies

Consider adding a corkboard or magnetic board so they can pin their favorite photos, mementos, and notes. Add in wall art or posters that incorporate their favorite hobbies and interests which in turn, helps create a space that feels uniquely theirs.

How to Capture a Modern Coastal Vibe for a Kid or Teen Room?

To capture modern coastal style for a kid or teen room is just like designing any other room with coastal decor. The first thing you need to do is start by creating an airy feel. Do this by choosing light, neutral colors for the walls and furniture. This mimics the beach’s soft hues and sandy tones. Next, incorporate woven accents in the furniture, lighting fixtures, and rugs to add texture and a touch of natural elements.

Add in subtle coastal touches to enhance the room’s theme without overpowering it. Some options would be to place a neutral area rug under the bed. Add some white bedding and throw pillows in soft shades like a sandy beige or with blue accents. Include artwork on tabletops or the walls as well as displaying books on shelves in the room. These elements can help create a sense of tranquility that is perfect for a kid or teen room.

When selecting furniture, avoid overly themed decor which can make the room feel outdated. Instead, when designing a coastal girls room, opt for pieces with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. To complete the modern coastal vibe, add accessories like soft colored throw pillows and neutral colored blankets to the bed while incorporating natural materials like rattan, jute, and bamboo to further enhance the room’s coastal feel.

Essential Tips to Maximize a Smaller Bedroom Space

Maximizing a smaller bedroom space requires you to get your creative juices flowing. One strategy to consider is having a corner bed. Placing the bed in a corner opens up more floor space and creates a cozy nook-like feel. When arranging furniture around the room, be mindful of the overall layout. You want to increase overall functionality and flow so consider placing larger pieces of furniture against the wall.

Another tip is to choose storage furniture that serves a dual purpose. For example, look for a bedframe that has built-in drawers (same goes for nightstands). Or choose a headboard with shelves to maximize storage space. All of these options help minimize clutter while keeping essentials close by.

When designing a coastal girls room, try to incorporate a lot of windows to the overall room design. This helps maximize the sense of space while keeping the room feeling open and bright. Natural light makes a room feel larger but also adds a sense of freshness to the space. Consider adding sheer curtains or blinds to allow in minimal light all while maintaining some privacy.

By incorporating these tips, you can maximize the smaller bedroom space while creating a stylish and functional coastal girls room.
